Meibomian Gland Disease MGD

Meibomian Gland Disease (MGD) is rapidly becoming more widely recognized as a critical player in Dry Eye Disease (DED). Today many studies in ophthalmology show that radio-frequency treatment is more beneficial than older manual techniques.

Meibomian gland dysfunction is the blockage or some other abnormality of the meibomian glands preventing them from secreting enough oil into the tears. Because the tears then evaporate quickly, MGD is a leading cause of dry eye disease. It can also be associated with an eyelid problem called blepharitis.

Radio-frequency heat like the used in Pelleve, Skin tightening systems also Dr. Jessica Duran to apply the precise temperature needed to heat the glands to aid in the healthy lipid flow into the tear film. Unfortunately, it is painful and dangerous to achieve these temperatures with any external methods at home.
