Dr. Brian M. Brown, Ophthalmologist

el do 3-18-14-5952Brian M. Brown was born in Los Angeles, California, raised in Downey, and he has practiced nearly his entire career in his hometown of Downey. In 2017, he and his office are celebrating his 30 year anniversary as an ophthalmologist.

Dr. Brown graduated with double honors from Stanford University, followed by his medical degree from UCLA School of Medicine. Brian M. Brown, M.D., completed his post-graduate studies in Ophthalmology at Doheny Eye Institute (USC), Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center, Stanford University and Children’s Hospital Los Angeles.

Dr. Brown is a board-certified ophthalmologist by the American Board of Ophthalmology and a lifetime member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. Additionally, he is a member of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons, California Association of Ophthalmology and the Los Angeles Eye Society.  Other positions include Chief of Ophthalmology at Downey Regional Medical Center and Clinical Instructor of Ophthalmology at the Doheny Eye Institute and Western State University, as well as President-elect of the Medical Staff at Presbyterian Intercommunity Hospital formally know as Downey Regional Medical Center. Brian M. Brown sits on the Board of Directors for Physicians Surgery Center of Downey, with other professional activities outside of medicine are Chairman of the City of Seal Beach Planning Commission and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Downey Federal Credit Union

Ophthalmologists are the most highly trained and revered practitioners in the field of eye care. The difference between an ophthalmologist and an optometrist is commonly not understood.  Ophthalmologists are fully licensed medical doctors who have had at least 8 years of medical training. Following medical school, ophthalmologists undergo a four-year residency, giving them the skill to diagnose and treat eye diseases. In addition, they can perform complex surgery on the eye to repair a host of conditions such as detached retina, cataracts, LASIK/PRK, and glaucoma procedures, just to name a few.

Dr. Brown and his wife Rosie,  are proud parents of daughter Sarah Brown freshman at Chapman University in Orange, Ca and their son Will Brown recent graduate of the University of California Berkeley with a degree in Architecture.
